Today's Music Monday episode features Lauren Daigle's powerful #1 song from 2021, 'You Say" which sat in the number 1 place on Billboards Top Christian Songs for 73 consecutive weeks. The strength of this song comes from its message. It is easy to connect to the vulnerability and hope that Lauren sings about. She reminds us that we are not what our emotions or circumstances tell us. We are without a doubt who God says we are. Our only requirement is to Believe.

Why One Song Topped Charts
SPEAKER_00Hey, good morning, everybody. We are going to take some time this morning to look at some more great Christian music. And we're going to look at what is the most popular Christian song over the last year and a half. In fact, this song has been number one for 73 weeks in a row on Billboard's Top Christian Song List. Often songs become popular because of their tune, the music, the hook in the music. People get that hook stuck in their minds and they sing it over and over and they repeat it again and again. Well, today's song has become so popular because it's got great music, but also it's got such a powerful message, and the words are so beautiful, and they have touched many people's lives. And that's why it has lasted so long in that number one
Lyrics About Identity And Worth
SPEAKER_00spot. The song, of course, is You Say by Lauren Daigle. Lauren is able to put into words what many people have felt, particularly young people, as they are attempting to find their way in life, wanting to know who God is, where God is, and what their own personal value and purpose is in this world. Let me read you just a few of the words. I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I'm not enough. Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up. Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low? Remind me once again who I am because I need to know. You say I am loved when I can't feel a thing. You say I'm strong when I am weak, and you say I am held when I'm falling short. And when I don't belong, oh you say that I am yours. I I just believe that every one of us have been in those places and times where we just don't feel like we fit in. We don't feel we have the purpose, we don't feel that we're going the right direction with our lives, that we're constantly falling short. And it's in those times, especially that God comes along with his word and he tells us that he loves us and he's there to help us. And that's where this song connects so beautifully and so powerfully.
Grace That Meets Weakness
SPEAKER_00In the book of 2nd Corinthians, chapter 12, and verse 9, Paul has been having this sort of discussion with God about wanting to get rid of this thorn in his flesh, and God keeps denying removal of it. And finally in verse 9, God says, My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness. And Paul responds, So now I am glad to boast about my weakness, so that the power of Christ can work through me. For when I am weak, then I am strong. That marvelous, overwhelming, all-encompassing grace of God that is there for us when we need it the most. When we are feeling that we are at our weakest, at our lowest, God comes to us and provides strength and lifts us up even when we don't understand how or why. He brings grace to help keep us moving. He brings hope when we've lost all hope. He brings clarity and purpose when we're struggling to find out why we even exist.
Lauren Daigle On Daily Truth
SPEAKER_00Soon after Lauren recorded the song, she gave an interview about the writing of it. She said, I just felt like so many things were pulling me in so many different directions. I think a lot of times we build complexes based upon insecurity, based upon fear, based upon rejection, and lies that we have to consistently overcome. And so this song for me was just a reminder of identity. It was a reminder that I know when I am weak, he is strong. So how do I change that and bring that knowledge into my everyday life? When I feel inadequate, how is it that there's always these moments when I feel like God just steps in and supersedes my inadequacies? This entire song was so that every single day I would get up on stage and remind myself, this is the truth. This is the truth. Don't get buried in confusion, don't get buried in waywardness, don't get buried in fear or rejection or insecurity. Just remember to stay steady on the course. Stay steady on the course.
Staying Steady In Uncertain Times
SPEAKER_00At a time when there are so many things that are uncertain in our world and in our lives, we don't know what tomorrow is going to look like. We don't know what changes or expectations are gonna be different tomorrow than they are today. Things are constantly in that state of change right now, and it's so frustrating, and sometimes it just wears us down. Well, this song reminds us that God is always there no matter how we're feeling, no matter what we're going through. The chorus states the most powerful declaration of the entire song. It says, I believe. I believe what you say of me, I believe. We can always rely on what he says about us and about our relationship with him. And then we can make sure that we stay on course. Just keep doing the right thing in the right way and keep believing the truths that are there for us. There will always be a hope and there will always
