IT'S OUR FRIDAY ROUNDUP.
A week can scatter your focus fast, so we’re doing a Friday roundup that pulls the best moments into one clear line you can carry into the weekend: God is trustworthy, His Word is worth opening, and the healthiest direction is forward. We start with resurrection evidence from 1 Corinthians 15 and why the Christian claim about Jesus doesn’t rest on vibes or tradition. We talk eyewitnesses, the visible change in the disciples, and why fulfilled biblical prophecy matters when you’re looking for faith that can hold up under pressure.
Then we shift to a small story with a sharp edge: a love note found inside a book that looked like nobody ever read it. That becomes a picture of what happens when we own Bibles but don’t open them, and why so many of us end up asking, “God, why aren’t you speaking to me?” We share a simple, repeatable response for daily spiritual growth: pray honestly, then read Scripture expecting direction and encouragement.
From there, we tackle the pull of the past through Jesus’ warning, “Remember Lot’s wife,” and Isaiah’s call to stop living in yesterday and pay attention to the new thing God is already doing. We also revisit the tragedy of Absalom and what pride plus the wrong advisors can do to a life full of opportunity. If you want a short Christian podcast that mixes Bible stories, practical wisdom, and weekend encouragement, press play and reset with us. Subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a review with the biggest takeaway you’re carrying into this weekend.
Welcome And Friday Roundup Plan
SPEAKER_00Good morning and welcome to Starting Right. I am Danny Mack, and I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back and relax for the next five minutes as I help you start your day by starting right. Good morning everybody. It's good to be here with you again today. And today, for the first time in a while, we are going to do a Friday roundup. We're going to give you a summary of each of our episodes from this week and give you a little bit more encouragement as you head into your weekend. So let's get right into it. Monday's episode was called Easter Morning Evidence, in which we talked about the abundant evidence there is about the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In 1 Corinthians chapter 15 and verse 3, the apostle Paul said he was buried, he was raised up on the third day according to the scriptures, and is still alive. He was seen by Cephas and then by the twelve. And after that he was seen by many more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom were still alive, though some have died. So many people saw him alive, but then there were also the disciples. You can look at the changes that took place in their lives. At the point when Jesus was being crucified, most of them were not around anywhere, they were hiding, they were afraid for themselves. But after Jesus' resurrection, when they saw him and they touched the scars in his hands and they ate with him, they became bold and strong, not afraid to face anything. Many of them died horrible, painful deaths because they would not renounce that they had seen Jesus Christ risen from the dead. Then there's the fact that Jesus' death and resurrection fulfilled over three hundred biblical prophecies. There's absolutely no way that could have happened by chance. Then of course is the reality of the testament of Christians in the world today, both the absolute difference that Christ has made in their lives. His life has given us new life, has given us purpose in our lives. He is our healer, he is our strength, he is our guide, he is our provider, and in him we find everything that we need in life. He will never leave us or forsake us. And all of that knowledge is what helps us to know that Jesus Christ is real and alive today. He is alive, and on Easter we celebrated God's greatest gift to us, the life and sacrifice of his only son, who rose again victorious over death so that we too might have life. Tuesday's episode was called A Love Note Left Unread. I talked about going to a community used book sale and picking up a book by one of my favorite authors. When I got home and opened up the book, there was a note that was very carefully written in a female hand. It said I love you and miss you. Think of me today. And there was a little heart at the end of it. I showed the note to my wife and said to her, you know, I think whoever this note was for never actually read it, because it was still inside this brand new book that was sold as a used one. My wife's immediate response was that's just like many people with the Bible. Many people do not understand what God has for them and how much God loves them. Sometimes these people even claim to be Christians, and they may own one or more Bibles. But if you don't read the Word of God, if you don't try to get His Word into you and begin to experience all the truths that He has there for us, I guarantee there will be times that you will struggle, and you'll cry out to God and say, Lord, why aren't you speaking to me and helping me? And when that happens there are two things that we should do. Number one, we should pray. Lay up before him what your needs and concerns are. And then you also need to read His Word. Look into His Word for direction, because God will often speak to you not in an audible voice, but through His Word into your heart, and give you the encouragement and direction that you need. Wednesday's episode was called Stop Looking Back. Now most of us know what the shortest verse of the Bible is. It's Jesus Wept, found in John 11 35. But do you remember the second shortest verse? It's found in Luke 17 and verse 32. Jesus is speaking and he says, Remember Lot's wife. The story takes place in the book of Genesis, where God has decided he is going to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. So in Genesis chapter 15, God sends the angels to speak to Lot and tell him to take his family and get out of there because of the destruction that is about to come. So Lot grabs his wife and family and they leave town. The one instruction the angels gave though was when you leave, do not look back. But Lot's wife could not help herself, and she looked back. And when she did, she was turned into a pillar of salt. So the question comes up, why did she look back? It had to be because there was something that she wanted to see, she wanted to hang on to, or she didn't want to leave. She was not looking ahead to what God had for them. She was looking back to see what they were leaving and what they were losing. And when she looked back, she lost sight of all the promises for what was ahead, for all the good things that God wanted to do in their lives. When we do the same thing so easily, we get all uptight about the things that we think we're missing out on or that we're leaving behind us, when in fact God is leading us and taking us to a new place. In the book of Isaiah, chapter forty three, verses eighteen and nineteen, the Lord says, Forget what has happened before, and do not think about the past. Look at the new thing I'm going to do. It is already happening. Don't you see it? So the key for all of us is very simple. Never worry about what's behind us. If God is leading you and directing you, he has something ahead of you that's more important than what you've left behind. Don't get dragged into feeling badly about what is behind you, but fully embrace where God's taking you to and enjoy what he has along the way. Yesterday's episode was called The Tragedy of Absalom. Absalom was one of David's sons. In fact, he became one of David's favorite sons. He was also very handsome, and he knew it, and he made sure that everybody else knew that he knew it. Through a series of very unfortunate and ugly circumstances, Absalom took the throne from David, and for a group of advisors he surrounded himself with his old buddies, which meant that he was soon at war with David and losing the battle badly. As Absalom is trying to escape from the battle, riding his donkey, he goes underneath the tree, and his hare catches in the tree and hangs him there. Soon after getting caught in the tree, he was found by Joab, one of David's men, who killed Absalom. Absalom's story could have been so very different. He was given tremendous privilege and opportunity as a young man. But instead of embracing that privilege, he abused it. He thought he knew better than his father. He refused to listen and to learn and take advice from the proper people and listen to his buddies instead, creating for himself tremendous problems. So there is a lesson for us there for sure. We need to learn to listen to the right people and take advice so that we can do and be what we need to do and be in the situations around us. I encourage you to read through this story and look at it. You will see how wonderful his life could have been and how far he actually fell. Well, gang, that was our week, and I hope you enjoyed it. It was really good to be back with you today. And I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Be sure to go to church if you get the chance. Say hi to your friends and family, spend some time with them, love on them, pray for your pastor, encourage one another, and let the Lord bless you. Have a great weekend, my friends, and we will talk again on Monday.
