Easter isn’t a warm metaphor in my mind, it’s a bold claim about reality: Jesus is alive. On this powerful Monday morning, I take a fast but serious look at why the resurrection of Jesus Christ still stands as the turning point of human history, and why it still gives real hope to real people. If you’ve ever thought, “Dead is dead,” you’re exactly who I’m talking to.

I lay out several quick evidences that Christians have leaned on for centuries, including the resurrection accounts recorded across the four Gospels, the early testimony Paul shares in 1 Corinthians about Jesus being seen alive afterward, and the striking change in the apostles who go from hiding in fear to proclaiming Christ at the cost of their lives. I also touch on fulfilled prophecy and the long trail of transformed lives as ongoing evidence of the power of the risen Jesus. This is a short, practical, faith-focused look at resurrection evidence, Christian belief, and why Easter Sunday continues to matter.

Good morning and welcome to Starting Right with Danny Mack. I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great five-minute start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back, relax, and let me help you start your day right. Good morning, everybody. Welcome to Monday. This is a very powerful Monday because yesterday, all around the world, we celebrated Easter Sunday. And that day represents the single greatest event in all of human history. It's the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He overcame death, he broke the gates of hell, and he walked on the earth again to declare the goodness and grace and power of God. And then he ascended into heaven, where he said that he goes to prepare a place for each of us. Now we know this to be true, but there are many people who say this didn't happen, but it couldn't happen. Jesus could not have actually risen from the grave. It's just impossible. If you're dead, you're dead. That's it, it's over. And so this morning I'll take a look at just a few of the evidences that Jesus rose from the grave, and then we're going to look at a song that talks about what Jesus went through and the fact that he actually did rise from that grave. But first, let's look at just a few answers to the question of whether or not Jesus actually rose from the dead, and what is the evidence that you can use to prove it? There is actually a fair amount of evidence, and I'm going to give you just a few short ones this morning simply because of time. First of all, the death and resurrection of Jesus is recorded in each of the four Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Each of these four Gospels was written independently from the other, but they all record essentially the same story, because it is the same story. Secondly, the Bible records that Jesus was seen by hundreds of people after his resurrection. In 1 Corinthians chapter 13 in verse 3, Paul writes and says, For I passed on to you the most important points that I received. The Messiah died for our sins according to the Scriptures. He was buried, he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and is still alive. He was seen by Cephas and then by the twelve, and after that he was seen by more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. Many people saw Jesus alive. One of the most interesting proofs is in the change that came in the apostles themselves, who were radically transformed by the resurrection. They were the same men who ran and hid and disappeared when Jesus was arrested. But three days later the disciples were willing to die a martyr's death, and many of them did die horribly, violently, because they would not renounce that Jesus Christ had risen from the dead and the message of Christ for salvation as the king of the world. And one other thing, Jesus' death and resurrection fulfilled over three hundred prophecies that were made in hundreds of years prior to his death and resurrection. And perhaps one of the most significant things is that there has never been anyone who so radically transformed so many lives in the history of the world. Billions of people have come to know God through Jesus Christ, and their lives were transformed by God's love working in them and through them, all because Christ died on that cross and rose again. So we have four independent authors who record the same story. We have over 500 witnesses who saw him after his resurrection. We saw the lives of the disciples radically transformed, and they were willing to suffer pain and ultimately death because of what they believed in the risen Jesus Christ. And then we have the 2,000 years of evidence of lives changed by the power of Jesus Christ. The fact of his death and his resurrection has given life and hope to billions of people. Many of those people experiencing a radical transformation because of the power of Christ working within them. The fact that Jesus is alive continues to impact people all around the world. Jesus was and is not just a means to salvation, he is our salvation. He is real. He came from heaven to save us. And he wants us to experience that life and hope that we have in him. He is alive. And Easter Sunday is the greatest day of victory in the history of mankind. And today's song talks about that. It originated with the slaves arriving in North America. The song is called Were You There? It's a fairly simple song, but the purpose of it is to make us think again about what happened on that Good Friday through Easter Sunday. Most of the time we sing three very simple verses. The first one is Were You There When They Crucified My Lord? The second verse says, Were you there when they laid him in the tomb? And the third one, Were you there when he rose up from the grave. The song today is sung by Rust Taft, and your show notes will have the YouTube link for the full rendition of it. Be blessed, my friends. Jesus is alive. He is with you, he is for you, and he will never ever disappoint you. Here's Rust Taft.
