Five minutes can reset an entire day when truth meets melody. We dive into the Scripture woven through Shane & Shane’s “You Said I Am,” unpacking the seven “I Am” statements of Jesus and how each one meets a real human need: hunger for purpose, longing for guidance, desire for safety, ache for care, and the fear of death. From Bread of Life to Light of the World, from the Gate to the Good Shepherd, and the triumphant promise of Resurrection and Life, we connect lyrics to the Gospel of John and trace their roots back to the burning bush, where God first named Himself “I Am.”

SPEAKER_00Good morning and welcome to Starting Right with Danny Mack. I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great five-minute start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back, relax, and let me help you start your day right. Good morning everyone and happy Music Monday. It's good to have you here with us, and I hope that you are enjoying your summary. For our Music Monday episode today, we're going to look at a song called You Said I Am by Shane and Shane. To introduce the song, I need to talk about the Book of John. In the book of John, Jesus said I am seven times. The I ams were all describing what he does, who he is, and the importance of what he's doing in our lives and in this world. Today's song, You Said I Am refers to five of those seven I ams, and we're going to take a look at the five that the song talks about. And as an extra bonus today, I'll let you know what numbers six and seven are at the end of this episode. But let's take a look at the song. Great song by Shane and Shane. The first verse starts out with You said I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to dine will not hunger, will not thirst, and will be satisfied. In John 6.35, Jesus says, I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never hunger again, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. He is reminding us that He is our source of spiritual sustenance. He is the bread that we need for our lives so that we can grow and understand that we have a purpose and a meaning in life. Without him there is no purpose. But as he feeds us more and more knowledge about why we are here, we now have a reason to live. The second I am from the book of John is in chapter eight and verse twelve that says, Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness because you will have the light that leads to life. The lyrics of our song today declare that you said I am the only light that gives the blind their sight. It's God's truth and guidance being used to illuminate the path to God and for our lives, removing the darkness that the enemy tries to put upon us. The song then in the second verse says, You said I am the open door that souls are longing for. In John chapter ten, verse nine, Jesus is speaking and says, Yes, I am the gate. Those who come through me will be saved. Jesus describes himself as the gateway to salvation. It's through him that people can gain access to a relationship with God and the safety of being in his care. The song then says, You said, I am the shepherd guide who came to live and to die. John chapter ten, verse eleven, Jesus said, I am the good shepherd. The shepherd sacrifices his life for his sheep. In this portion of scripture, Jesus is telling us that he is guiding and protecting his people to the point of sacrificing himself. It's God's sacrificial love for us that is so astounding and can transform our lives and transform our world. And the last thing the song tells us you're the one who came and died and rose again. The great I am. John chapter eleven, verse twenty-five. Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live even after they die. This really is a great song. It reminds us of the truths that Jesus proclaimed throughout Scripture about Himself. The only two it doesn't cover from the book of John are these two, where in John fourteen six, Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life no man can come to the Father except through me. And then down in John fifteen verse one, I am the true grapevine, and my father is the gardener. In those two verses Jesus is declaring how he works for us and with us, that through him there is life, and when we are attached to him as the grape is to the vine, we will grow and be strong, and the Father will look after us. And all seven of these I am echo back to Exodus chapter three and verse fourteen, when God had told Moses that he was to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt, and Moses turned to God and said, Who should I tell them has sent me? God responded, Tell them I am has sent you. When God said I am back in Exodus, he was declaring that I am what you need me to be when you need me to be it. I am all powerful, I am all knowing, I am your source, I am your life, I am your future, I am your power, I am your forgiveness, I am. And these declarations of Jesus in the Gospel of John and the song today remind us of God's promises and of his power and of the work he is doing in our lives. I'm gonna leave you with just a short clip of You Said I Am by Shane and Shane, and then also in your show notes there will be the YouTube link where you can go and listen to the whole thing. It is a beautiful, wonderful song. I hope you have a great day, my friends. Be blessed, be a blessing, and here's Shane and Shane with You Said I Am.
