Welcome to the Table...When a lavish banquet sits untouched, what does it reveal about the human heart—and the heart of God?  Today we look at Jonathan Traylor's powerful song "The Table” a modern hymn of welcome and freedom. There’s a seat just for you. Trade chains for crowns. Cups overflow with love that does not run dry. These lines aren’t just poetic; they’re deeply practical for anyone who still measures their worth by their last mistake. We talk about what it means to show up hungry, to be met by abundance rather than judgment, and to find safety at a table prepared in the presence of our enemies.
Come and us around the table, then share this episode with someone who needs a reminder that they’re wanted. If it moved you, subscribe, leave a review, and tell us: whose seat will you help save this week?

Good morning and welcome to Starting Right. I am Danny Mack, and I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back and relax for the next five minutes as I help you start your day by starting right. Good morning everybody and welcome to Music Monday. Today we've got a song for you from Jonathan Trailer, released back in 2021. It's called The Table. And I think you're going to really like what he has to say. But before we get to the song, let's take a look at Luke chapter 14, starting in verse 16, where Jesus is teaching about a man who had prepared a banquet. He says A man prepared a great feast and sent out many invitations. When the banquet was ready he sent his servant to tell the guests, Come, the banquet is ready. But they all began to make excuses. One said I've just bought a field and I must inspect it. Please excuse me. Another said, I've just bought five pairs of oxen, and I want to try them out. Please excuse me. Another said, I just got married, so I can't come. The servant returned and told his master what they had said. His master was furious and said, Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and invite the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame. After the servant had done this, he reported there is still room for more. So the master said, Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full. Now usually when we talk about the scripture, we want to talk about the people who didn't come, they made excuses not to be there, and then all of the other people who were invited instead. But I want to focus just for a moment on the host of the banquet. He had laid out this grand spread of food that obviously could feed many, many people. It was all there waiting for them, and it would have been some of the very best food available. This was a major, major feast that he had put together. But there were still those who decided for whatever reason that they couldn't or wouldn't come, and so the man invited all the others. This banquet table represents the goodness of God, the variety and the abundance of God's blessings and work that he wants to do in our lives. That means that even when we're surrounded by all those who hate us or dislike us or who are against us, God invites us to meet him in that place and builds for us this table that is filled with his goodness and his kindness so that we can sit back and be fed without being in fear of the enemies around us. The song The Table by Jonathan Trailer starts out like this There is a table filled with best food. Can you hear the father calling? There's a seat just for you, and at this table all is forgidden. Trade in your chains of bondage for crowns of freedom. All are welcome at the table. This is a place for you. Then a bit further on he says, This is the table of new beginnings. These cups are full of love and it's never ending. There are no orphans, just a loving father and his sons and daughters. I think back to that story in Luke. The servant went out and he gathered the crippled, the poor, the lame, the blind, and brought them in. They must have felt very much out of place, but they were welcomed and given a seat at that table whether they felt worthy of it or not. The servant then went out beyond the city and gathered people from the country lanes and from behind the hedges, and he urged everyone and anyone to come so that the house would be full. God wants his house full. And there are times where, for whatever reason, we feel unworthy of God's love, we feel unworthy of his acceptance. But God is calling us. He reaches out to us and says, You who don't feel worthy, you who know you've done wrong and are condemning yourself so badly for it, you who have made mistakes in your life, I'm aware of all of those things, God says. But my love is greater than your mistakes. My love is greater than your failures. Come, sit at my table and receive my love and my goodness. Let my love speak to you and into you and be blessed. I'm going to leave you with a clip of this song from Jonathan Trailer called The Table, and then in your show notes there will be a link to the YouTube version where you can watch the video. It's great. You will enjoy it. I hope you all have a great day, my friends. Come to the table. God's got a spot for you. Here's Jonathan Trailer.
