Mornings can rush past before we ever find our footing, so we chose to begin with words that have guided hearts for centuries. We take a calm, five-minute walk through the Book of Psalms, exploring why these ancient lines still carry us through fear, doubt, gratitude, and praise. From the intimacy of “The Lord is my shepherd” to the quiet strength of “Be still and know that I am God,” we highlight verses that give language to the soul and shape how we face the day ahead.
To make this practical, we share a curated selection of beloved verses: “The heavens declare the glory of God,” “Whom shall I fear,” “Your word is a lamp to my feet,” “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,” and more. Consider choosing one to carry through your day as a grounding refrain. Whether you need courage for a hard choice, calm in a tense meeting, or gratitude in the ordinary, these time-tested words can reset your focus and renew your hope. Start right with us, and let worship shape your morning in a way that fits your life.

Beloved Lines From The Psalms

Call To Worship And Closing

Good morning and welcome to Starting Right with Danny Mack. I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great five-minute start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back, relax, and let me help you start your day right. I love the Bible very much. And so many parts of the Old Testament I've just loved to read, but I have to tell you that my favorite book of the entire Old Testament is the Book of Psalms. It is filled with 150 chapters of human emotions, of worshiping God, of finding God in the midst of our trials and our struggles, and of the faithfulness and great love that God has for his people. Max Lucato in his book about the Psalms introduces it this way This collection of hymns and petitions are strung together by one thread, a heart hungry for God. Some are defiant, others are reverent, some are to be sung, others are to be prayed, some are intensely personal. Others are written as if the whole world would use them, some were penned in caves and others in temples. But all have one purpose to give us the words to say when we stand before God. The very variety should remind us that worship is personal. No secret formula exists. What moves you may stymie another. Each worships differently, but each of us should worship. This collection of songs and hymns from the book of Psalms lives on, not only in the Bible but in the music that we currently sing today. Many of the hymns and many of the Christian worship songs of today are written based on these Psalms and their worship for Almighty God. I'm going to give you a list of twenty five of the most familiar lines from the book of Psalms. I'm sure you'll know them. Many of them we sing, and almost all of them you've heard from the pulpit in your church. So let these words from Psalms encourage you this morning. Psalm eight verse one O Lord our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. Psalm fourteen one. The fool says in his heart, there is no God. Over in Psalm nineteen, verse one, it tells us that the heavens declare the glory of God. And in Psalm twenty two, verse one we hear this plea, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Psalm twenty-three, The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. Psalm twenty-seven, The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? Psalm thirty-seven four, delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm forty-two, one, as the deer pants for the streams of water, so my soul pants for you. Psalm forty-six, God is our refuge and strength and ever present help in trouble. Psalm forty-six ten. Be still and know that I am God. Psalm forty-eight one, Great is the Lord and worthy to be praised. In Psalm 51, ten we hear this wonderful plea from King David. Psalm 67 says, May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us. Psalm 84, verse 1 How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty. Here's some encouragement from Psalm 98. Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things. Psalm 100, shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Over in verse 5 of the same chapter, for the Lord is good and his love endures forever, his faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 103, verse 12, we have this wonderful promise. Psalm 107, verse 1, give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, and his love endures forever. Psalm 119, your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Psalm 133, how good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Search me, O God, and know my heart. The Book of Psalms is filled with worship and praise to Almighty God, and Max Locato said it really well when he said each of us worships differently, but each of us should worship. And I encourage all of us to spend more time worshiping God in whatever way works best for you. He is worthy of our praise because he is God. Have a great day, my friends. We will talk again tomorrow. Thank you for listening today. And I invite you to join me Monday to Friday right here on Starting Right with Danny Mack.
