Morning Prayers, Lasting Peace
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Start your day with a reset that trades anxiety for peace and rush for trust. We unpack how prayer moves from a last-ditch effort to a life-giving rhythm, rooted in Philippians 4:6–7 and strengthened by the promise that God’s peace can guard minds that feel overwhelmed. Along the way, we explore what it means to pray according to God’s will, how Scripture shapes our requests, and why expectation is not wishful thinking but grounded confidence in God’s character.
We also lean into the power of praying together. Drawing from Torrin Wells’ “When We Pray,” we talk about strongholds breaking, hearts mending, and communities shifting when the church joins in one voice. United prayer doesn’t twist God’s arm—it awakens ours. If you’ve been waiting on answers or wrestling with a tired heart, this conversation offers practical handles: bring everything to God with gratitude, align your prayers with what He has already revealed, and keep showing up in community where hope multiplies.

Welcome to Starting Right
SPEAKER_01Good morning and welcome to Starting Right with Danny Mack. I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great five-minute start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back, relax, and let me help you start your day right. Good morning, everybody, and welcome to another week. You all know that Mondays are our music days. We talk about Christian music, and today we're going to look at a song called When We Pray by Torrin Wells. But let's talk about prayer just for a moment before we look at the song. Let me give you this scripture that is very important to us in our understanding of prayer. Philippians chapter 4, verses 6 and 7. It says, Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving. Let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. There are some times when we can find ourselves getting very uptight when we pray because we're not seeing the answers we're asking for. They're not coming fast enough or in the way that we want. So we can either condemn ourselves for not being good enough for God to answer our prayers, or we blame God for not caring and not wanting to do what we believe is so necessary. But the scripture tells us to have a different attitude about it. It says that we are not to be anxious or worry or get uptight or stress out over anything. But in everything, by prayer and bringing those requests to God along with thankfulness and praise to Him, we make our requests known. It says at that time God's peace will overcome us, and it will be so strong that it won't make any kind of sense. Remember that in Hebrews we're told that faith is the essence of things hoped for and not yet seen. Faith doesn't mean you believe because of what you've seen. Faith is believing in what God's promises are, and our decision to stand on and hold on to those promises. So that when we pray, even though we've not seen the answers or the changes yet, we can believe that he is going to do what he has promised he is going to do. Over in first John chapter 5, verses 14 and 15. And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that is Christ, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have what we have asked of him. If we pray according to God's will, well, how do you know God's will? What does the Bible say is the will of God? If you pray according to what the Bible tells us is God's will, and there's many places that he does tell us that, and I don't have time to get into all of them this morning, but if you take a look, you will find what God's will is, and if you pray in accordance to that will, God will hear our prayers and he will answer them. We can get excited about what God is going to do based upon what he has already promised. We know that our God is trustworthy, we know that his word is true, and so we can put our faith in him and believe that he will do what he has said. Torrin's song acknowledges that there are many people who are hurting, who are broken, they're feeling beaten down and hopeless. But it doesn't have to stay that way. He says, We believe all the world starts changing. When the church starts praying, strongholds start to break. When we pray, prison walls start shaking. At the sound of praising, nothing stays the same. Let your kingdom come, Lord, let your will be done. All the world starts changing when the church starts praying. When we pray, things happen. We can trust him, even though the time frame is not ours, it is always his. We can still trust him to do his work and his way. Psalm chapter five and verse three says, In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice. In the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. I love that verse because it reminds us that when we pray, we can wait in eager anticipation for God to work on our behalf, which is exactly what Torin sings about in this song. All the world starts changing when the church starts to pray. I'm going to leave you with just a short clip of Torin Wells and When We Pray, and in your show notes today, there will be the YouTube link that you can click on and go and watch the entire video. I encourage you to do that. And I pray that God will give you strength and wisdom this week and bless you, and that you will spend time seeking God's face and praying. Don't give up. Don't let go. Always hang on to the truth and be filled with faith. Have a great day, my friends. We will talk again tomorrow, and here's Torn Wells with When We Pray.
