Morning Joy On Life’s Roller Coaster
Ever feel like you’re gripping the safety bar of life and still bracing for the next drop? We take a honest look at control—why we chase it, why it slips through our fingers, and how surrender to God’s faithfulness brings a steadier peace than perfect plans ever could. Using vivid, everyday moments and short passages from Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Jeremiah, Psalms, Isaiah, and Romans, we map a path from anxiety to anchored hope.
We start with the roller coaster we all know: sudden diagnoses, job shifts, and family upheavals that reveal how fragile our strategies can be. From there, we explore a better foundation—God’s sovereign purpose and the seasons He leads us through. You’ll hear how trust moves from theory to practice, with simple reflection questions that expose over‑control, and a daily rhythm of committing your way to the Lord. Rather than promising a problem‑free path, we lean into Isaiah’s assurance of presence, strength, and help when fear rises, and we witness how Romans 15:13 turns trust into joy that overflows.
Along the way, we reclaim a tired phrase—let go and let God—and uncover its deeper meaning: releasing our white‑knuckle grip can make space for blessings we never expected. When we loosen our hold on outcomes, we become more attentive to grace, more resilient in uncertainty, and more ready for the surprising good works God wants to do in us, for us, and through us. If you’re ready to trade frantic control for grounded confidence, this five‑minute boost will meet you right where you are and lift your eyes to where hope lives.

Good morning and welcome to Starting Right with Danny Mack. I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great five-minute start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back, relax, and let me help you start your day right. I've not ridden a lot of roller coasters in my life, but I've heard the analogy a number of times that says that life can be like a roller coaster. There are ups and downs, curves, and all sorts of twists and turns that we just can't control. And for many of us that causes a whole lot of stress because we feel that we really truly need to have that control. But the truth is, control is merely an illusion. In Proverbs 1921, the Bible reminds us of that when it says many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails. So what happens when we face those moments that shatter our illusions of control? It takes just one bad doctor's report, or a rebellious child, or a car wreck, or a pandemic, or a downturn in the job market to reveal the fragility of our own plans. Over in Ecclesiastes chapter three, verse one, it tells us there's a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens. When we face our seasons of uncertainty, we must recognize where our control ends and where God's faithfulness begins. It's true that life's roller coaster may seem chaotic, but remember, God is sovereign, and he is bringing to us his desired end. One of my favorite verses, Jeremiah twenty nine eleven. God says, I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope in a future. Our job is not to control every twist and turn, but to trust in His faithfulness. It's a paradigm shift that we go through, letting go of the safety bar of life, and embracing the truth that God is using all the ups and downs to fulfill his purpose. Psalm thirty one five encourages us, it says, Commit your way to the Lord, trust in him, and he will do this. So when I find myself getting uptight about not having control in a situation, I have to remember to ask myself, am I hanging on too tightly? Am I terrorizing myself by my perceived lack of control? And then I need to ask, am I really ready to surrender to God, the one who is in control of my roller coaster? You see, when we release our illusion of control, we can discover joy in the faithfulness of God, because it's not about the absence of troubles, but about having a strong conviction that God is steering the ride of our lives towards his desired end. Isaiah four hundred ten says Do not fear for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God, I will strengthen you and help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Embracing the truth of God's faithfulness doesn't mean a trouble free life, but it does mean that we are living a life of hope anchored in God's promises. Romans fifteen thirteen beautifully puts it, May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of his Holy Spirit. We need to remember that life's roller coaster will be full of uncertainties, but God will always remain faithful. There's a phrase that's been around for a long time that says let go and let God. And I used to think that was talking about letting go of all of the sin in our lives to make sure we let go of those things that we want to get rid of that want to cling on to us. Well that's partially true, but that's not all of what it's saying. That phrase reminds us that when we hang on too tightly to the things that we are simply trying to control, we can hinder what God wants to do in our lives. Because sometimes God's greatest blessings for us come as a surprise, something we're not expecting, something that is completely outside of our control. That's often when God can come in and do something incredible in us and for us and even through us. And so we need to be able to let go and enjoy this wild ride that God has for us. Our Christian life is full of adventure, full of surprises. There may be a lot of unknown ahead of us, but we face it with faith and the expectation that God is with us and will guide us through it with grace and power and his blessings on us. I hope you have a great day, my friends. Be blessed and be a blessing. And we will talk again tomorrow. Thank you for joining us today, and I invite you to join us every Monday to Friday, right here at Starting Right with Danny Mack.
