Starting Right
Common Sense, Renewed Minds
Start your day with a thought you can actually use: a renewed mind beats a noisy world. We open with a few laugh‑out‑loud warning labels—please don’t eat toner—and use that absurdity to spotlight something more serious: how easily our thinking gets tossed by headlines, hot takes, and the urge to fit God into whatever the culture is saying. Instead, we walk through a simple, solid shift drawn from Romans 12:2 and James 1—let Scripture shape your view, not the other way around.
By the end, you’ll have a five‑minute framework to move from panic to prayer, from sarcasm to discernment, and from cynicism to courage. Laugh at the labels, but don’t live by them. Choose clarity over confusion, Scripture over spin, and steady hope over restless doubt. If this short reset helps you start strong, tap follow, share it with a friend who needs a lift, and leave a quick rating so more people can find a centered start to their day.
Good morning and welcome to Starting Right with Danny Mack. I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great five-minute start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back, relax, and let me help you start your day right. I came across a list of warning labels that are on current products that are out there. These labels all had to be put on various products because their lawyers said if they didn't they could be held liable and they could be sued. It really makes me wonder about the lack of common sense that there is in our world around us right now. Let me give you some of these labels and you'll understand what I mean. There's a warning label on extension ladders that says you do not use on ice. How about this one on a baby stroller? It says remove child before folding. Here's one that was on a carpenter's wooden drill. This product is not intended for use as a dental drill. Here's a label that was on the fuel tank of a jet ski. Never use a lit match or open flame to check fuel. How about this one on a hairdryer? Do not use while sleeping. Last one here I've got right now, and there are many more, is from an ink toner box. It says, Do not eat toner. I gotta tell you, gang. I really worry about the lack of common sense around us and why, in fact, people have to be given warning labels so that they won't do some of these really, really strange things. The Bible tells us in Romans chapter twelve and verse two, it says, Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will know and be able to test and approve what God's will is, his good, pleasing, and perfect will. I don't think we want to be conformed to the pattern of this world that has to have a label on a toner box that says do not eat toner. So what does the Bible mean when it says that we are to have a renewed mind? Our view should be that God is in control no matter what, that God has got his hand on everything around us, and we can trust him with that. Our thinking has to be in line with the promises of God, and not caught up between listening to one thing and doubting with another and trying to figure out what God's word is and how God's word fits in with it. Sometimes one of our struggles is that we try to take what we see around us and view that as our reality, and then we try to make God's word fit into that. Well, that's the wrong way to do it, quite frankly. The Bible tells us very clearly that we are to take the word of God as our base of truth and then view everything in the world around us through that perspective. That's where we need to be, and that's what we need to keep our eyes on as we're going ahead and working ahead in what God has for us. In the book of James, chapter one, starting in verse six, it says, But when you ask God, you must believe and not doubt. Anyone who doubts is like a wave in the sea blown up and down by the wind. Such doubters are thinking two different things at the same time, and they cannot decide about anything they do. There we are, gang. We can get thrown around and our minds up and down and toss and turn by every different thing that we listen to. Right now you could watch four different news channels, and you could get four different perspectives on exactly the same thing. You can choose which one you want to listen to, but then you'll get confused because it doesn't fit with what you're seeing and hearing that the other ones are reporting as well. We have to maintain a focus on what God's word is, and God's word has got to be our priority in everything we do. So today, gang, I encourage you as you go out and you start your day. Let's go out and see the world around us as God sees it. Let's open our eyes and believe that God's got this in control, he's got your life in control, he's got the situation under his hand, and he's working it out for his purposes, and we can trust him in it today. Think about this as God does. Let your mind be renewed by the power of his spirit. I encourage you today, be strong, be full of faith, and know that God is with you. Have a great day. We'll talk to you tomorrow. Thank you for joining us today, and I invite you to join us every Monday to Friday, right here at Starting Right with Danny Mack.
