SPEAKER_00:

Good morning and welcome to Starting Right. I am Danny Mack, and I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back and relax for the next five minutes as I help you start your day by starting right. I heard the story about a couple young men who were wandering down a country road, and it was starting to get late in the day. So they decided to cut across a farmer's field to get home more quickly. As they wandered through the brush at the outside edge of this field, they came across a hole in the ground. It was several feet across, and they looked down and they could not see the bottom of this hole. So they threw some rocks in, hoping that the rocks would let them know some ideas to how deep it was and if there was water in it or whatever. But as they listened, they didn't hear anything. So they took some larger rocks and they tossed them into the hole. Again they did not hear the rocks hitting the bottom or any other sound. They looked around to see if they could find something larger. They saw not too far away an old transmission out of a truck, and it was laying there rusty and kind of messed up. But they sort of dragged it over to the hole and they tossed it into the hole. And then they listened. They didn't hear the transmission hitting the bottom, but behind them they started to hear noises and a sound like something running. They turned and looked over their shoulders and running directly at them at full speed was a goat, bleating loudly and running as fast as it could. The goat came straight at them. They had to jump out of the way, and then the goat dove into the hole. The two fellows looked at each other in amazement, not knowing what to think of this, but as they were still thinking about what they had just seen, the farmer arrives. He looks over at them and they begin to apologize for being in his field, but the farmer says, Oh, no problem, boys, it's not a problem. He says, I've lost my goat. I can't find him. One of the young men said, Hey, we saw your goat. We were just standing here, and the goat came running at us at full speed, and we jumped out of the way and it dove into this hole. And the farmer scratched his head and he said, I don't quite see how that's possible. You see, I I had him tied up pretty good to an old transmission that was just over here. Well, the moral to that silly story is that you follow what you're tied to. As Christians, we have been privileged to be tied to Jesus Christ. In fact, we're not only tied to him, the scripture tells us that we have been adopted by him. Ephesians chapter one, verses four and five says, Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. We have been adopted by God. That word adoption actually means more than just signing some papers. It means that we have been grafted into his family. We now belong to him. And as we are now tied to him, we are in that constant process of learning what it means to follow him. It's a privilege to have God in our lives. It's a privilege to be able to talk to him and listen to what he has to say, to read his word, to sing his praises, and to know that he is in control of our lives when we give it to him. Our faith grows when we trust in Christ. Psalm twenty-five, verses four and five say, Make me know your ways, O Lord. Teach me your paths, lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation. For you I wait all day. He will teach us his paths, he will teach us the way to go. I don't know what you're facing today. You may be going through some real challenges right now, something that is very personal to your family or to yourself. Maybe your stress has come out of health situations or financial situations or relationship situations. We have such a privilege to have on our side God working for us and with us. We have been adopted into his family, and as we are adopted into his family, we are tied to him, and he is tied to us, and he works with us, and the power of his spirit is within you right now to help you in what you are facing today. I know that God has got help and support for you right now. So I encourage you to make a choice today, to take whatever it is that you are struggling with, whatever is that big concern for you right now and give it to the Lord. Start your day right now by giving it to God and say, Lord, I can't do this on my own. But I'm so glad that you can and that you are with me to help me. And I'm so glad, Lord, that we have this bond where you are my father and I am your child. Have a great day, my friends. We'll talk tomorrow. Thank you for listening today. And I invite you to join me Monday to Friday right here on Starting Right with Danny Mack.
