Morning Wisdom
What happens when we faithfully plant seeds of God's truth in the hearts of our children? The answer might surprise and delight you.
The wisdom of Proverbs 22:6 reminds us to "train up a child in the way he should go," promising that these early teachings create lasting foundations. Many of us can still recall Bible verses and church songs from our childhood years, testimonies to the enduring power of early spiritual formation. These seeds of truth often remain dormant during seasons of wandering but can spring to life when most needed.
The highlight of today's episode comes through an extraordinary demonstration of this principle in action. My niece Fawn homeschools her two young children, five-year-old Jonah and four-year-old Tira. In just three months, little Tira has memorized the entirety of Psalm 100—a remarkable achievement that I'm privileged to share with you. Her sweet voice proclaiming ancient words of praise serves as powerful evidence that even the youngest among us can internalize and express profound spiritual truths.
Good morning and welcome to Starting Right. I am Danny Mac and I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back and relax for the next five minutes as I help you start your day by starting right. Hey, good morning everyone. Welcome to Monday. It is really good to have you here again as we start another week. Now. Some of you may be tuning in this morning expecting to hear us talk about some Christian music. Don't worry, we will talk about music this week, but we're moving that to Wednesday because I have an opportunity to share something with you today that I think you will enjoy.
Speaker 1:Psalm 127, starting in verse 3, tells us Children are a gift from the Lord. They are a reward from Him. I love kids. They truly are one of the greatest gifts from God. They can bring joy to your life, and God has given them to us as a blessing for us. So let's talk a little bit about what the Bible tells us about our children, and at the end of this episode, I have something very special for you.
Speaker 1:In the fifth chapter of the book of Deuteronomy, god gave, through Moses, the Ten Commandments to the people. They were the commands that people were to live by, to prioritize, to try to live the life that God had for them. And then, in chapter 6, immediately following, in the seventh verse, god says this impress them, that is, these commandments on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, and when you lie down and when you get up. It's really a very important portion of scripture that tells us how God wants us to influence our children. We are to talk about God's truths, basically to talk about them all the time, throughout the day. We're teaching our children who God is, that he is the creator, that he is God, that he is powerful. Keep speaking truths to your children Over. In Proverbs 22,. In verse 6, it says train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Now, that's the process that God has for us to teach them throughout their lives, especially when they're young, so that they get the truth into them and they can begin to live it afterwards, that they remember the things of God that their parents taught them.
Speaker 1:Those of you who have been Christians for a long time, or if you grew up in a Christian home. I'm sure there are things that you remember that you learned back from your parents or in Sunday school or somewhere along the line verses that you know that you can speak now, that you learned back when you were a child. How about some of those songs in church that you sang when you were growing up? Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so, and many, many more. We know those verses and those songs because they were planted into us when we were young. Many of us have experienced the hard truth that as we grew up or as our children grow up, very often they will want to try their own way to live life, and it seems like they may have forgotten the truths of God, but those truths are still in them and it's those seeds of God's truth and the words of God that are planted deep inside of them that will come to them and will often lead them back to understand who God is. Don't forget to teach our children. Now for the very special part of what I have for you today.
Speaker 1:I have a niece. Her name is Fawn. She has two young children a son named Jonah he is five years old and a daughter named Tira, who is just four. Jonah is old enough to begin kindergarten this year, so Fawn decided she was going to homeschool him, but Tira decided she wanted to go to. So Fawn decided she was going to homeschool him, but Tira decided she wanted to go to school too. Her brother was not going to be able to do that without her, so she decided she wanted to be there and be a part of it. So Fawn's kindergarten class now consists of both of her children, and in the first three months of the school year they have done very well. Along with their regular curriculum, they've learned to memorize Bible verses. It turns out that Tira is pretty good at memorizing, and over the first couple months of school he was able to memorize the entirety of the 100th Psalm. Fawn sent me a recording of this. This is the kind of planting God's truth into our children that will stay with them all their lives. Listen and be blessed.
Speaker 2:Lord, he is God. He hath made us, not we ourselves. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture, and come to his gates with thanksgiving, come to his courts with praise and be thankful unto him and bless him's name, for the Lord, him's good and his mercy is everlasting and all generations. Him's truth is all generations.
Speaker 1:Isn't that great. That was four-year-old Tira telling you what has been planted in her heart and in her life. Be blessed, my friends. Have a great day everyone. We will talk to you all again tomorrow. Thank you for listening today and I invite you to join me Monday to Friday, right here on, starting Right with Denny Mack.
