Music Mondays: CeCe Winans, "The Goodness of God"

DannyMac Season 1 Episode 1321

Gospel legend CeCe Winans breathes new life into Bethel Music's beloved worship anthem "Goodness of God" in this soul-stirring Music Monday episode. When life takes detours through valleys of difficulty, pain, and uncertainty, it's natural to question where God's goodness can be found. The profound truth explored today is that divine goodness isn't diminished by our challenges—it often shines most brilliantly against them. As Psalm 34:8 invites us to "taste and see that the Lord is good," we're reminded this isn't merely intellectual understanding but experiential knowledge available even in our darkest moments.

Speaker 1:

Good morning and welcome to Starting Right with Danny Mac. I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great five-minute start to your day, so grab your cup of coffee, sit back, relax and let me help you start your day right. Good morning, everybody, and welcome to a brand new week and welcome to our Music Monday episode. Today, we're going to take a look at a song that was originally released back in 2019 by Bethel Music, called the Goodness of God, but there is a new version of it that's just been released by a very powerful singer, and not only is she powerful, she is also one of the most celebrated and honored gospel singers of all time. I'm talking, of course, about CeCe Winans. You may not have heard of her before, but over the years she has won 15 Grammys, the most for any gospel singer. She's won 31 GMA Dev Awards, 16 Stellar Awards, 7 NAACP Image Awards and many others. She has her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has sold over 17 million records. Cece Winans is one of the great ladies of gospel music, and her version of this song is absolutely powerful. But let's talk about the song itself, which reminds us of the incredibly important truth that God is good and he has goodness for us.

Speaker 1:

Psalm 34, verse 8 says Taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him. There is a promise from God that no matter what we see or what we're experiencing around us what we see or what we're experiencing around us God is good and will always be good. And in this verse the psalmist urges us to taste and see. It is an invitation to experience a personal encounter with the Creator. Often we easily recognize God's goodness in moments of blessing, when our hearts are overflowing with and life's journey appears to be smooth. In those times it's easy to remember and fitting that we pause and offer our gratitude to recognize that God has created all of the beautiful things around us. But what about those times when life takes a detour into the valley of let's call it difficulty, pain and uncertainty? In those times it's natural to question God's goodness. Yet we have an assurance that comes from Romans 8, verse 20, which says we know that in all things, god works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. The verse never promises that trials and problems will be absent from our lives. Instead, it is a reassurance that God works all things, even the painful and the perplexing things, for the ultimate good of those who are devoted to Him. And that's why this song is so beautiful and so important for us right now, as there's so many things happening around us.

Speaker 1:

Because, within the song, the lyrics remind us that, even at the darkest moments, god's goodness surrounds us. Lines like this from the song I love your voice. You have led me through the fire in darkest nights. You are close like no other. Those lines remind us that the truth of God's goodness is not diminished by our difficulties. Instead, his goodness shines through, guiding us through the flames and walking us through the darkest of nights. The song reminds us throughout it that, even though we are going through life's trials, god's goodness remains evident through his comforting presence, his unwavering love and the amazing power of God's grace.

Speaker 1:

Sometimes, difficulties provide a canvas for us to experience God's nearness in ways that we might otherwise overlook. He walks beside us and he actually walks beside us through the darkest valleys. He infuses us with strength and resilience, he nurtures growth amidst adversity and he helps shape us into vessels for His glory. So today, wherever you are at, if you're experiencing the really powerful goodness of God right now, or you're struggling through some difficulties and wondering where God's goodness is. Let me encourage you to embrace this profound truth the goodness of God is not fleeting, but it is eternally steadfast. As we taste and see His goodness, let us take refuge in Him.

Speaker 1:

Through the highs of life's blessings, his goodness is unmistakable, and during the lows of trials, his goodness shines through His sustaining presence, his steadfast love and His promise to work out all things for our good and His purpose. And as the lyrics of the song remind us, his goodness remains our constant companion. Let us cling to His unchanging goodness, finding our solace, our hope, our strength in the arms of our loving Heavenly Father. I'm going to leave you with just a short clip of CeCe Winan's version of the song, and then in your show notes there will be the YouTube link where you can go and click on that and watch the entire video. It's really worth it. She sings the song beautifully and powerfully. I love her version of this song and I think that you will too, have a great day, my friends. Here's CeCe Winans, with the Goodness of God, thank you.
