Speaker 1:

Good morning and welcome to Starting Right with Danny Mac. I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great five-minute start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back, relax and let me help you start your day right. Today I've got a new story for you. It's a true story from Dwight Nelson, as he talks about a pastor friend of his. It's really fun and I think you'll enjoy it.

Speaker 1:

He tells of how a kitten climbed up a tree in his pastor friend's backyard and then it was afraid to come down. So he tried coaxing it with warm milk. Talking very gently to it, he tried everything he could think of to try to get the cat to come down, but still it wouldn't come. The tree was a fairly young one, so the pastor couldn't climb it. But he had a thought If I could tie a rope as high up on the tree as I could reach, then I could tie the other end to my car, then slowly move my car away from the tree. It would bend over and then maybe I could get a hold of the kitten. So he reached up in the tree as high as he could and tied a rope around it and then tied the rope to his car. Slowly he drove the car away from the tree, bending it over. He kept getting out to check it, but decided he needed to come down just a little bit more. So he hopped back in one more time, and as he did so the rope broke. The tree went boing and the kitten instantly sailed through the air out of sight.

Speaker 1:

The pastor was desperate. He was heartbroken. He never felt so bad. He walked all over the neighborhood asking people if they'd seen the little kitten, but nope, nobody saw it. If they'd seen the little kitten, but nope, nobody saw it. So he prayed. He said, lord, I commit this kitten to your keeping. And then he went about his business.

Speaker 1:

Well, a few days later he was at the grocery store when he met Melissa Jefferson, one of his church members. He happened to look at her shopping cart and he was amazed to see cat food. Knowing that she hated cats, he asked her why are you buying cat food when you hate cats so much? She replied you're not going to believe this and told him how her little girl, megan, had been begging her for a cat, but she kept refusing. Then, just a few days before, the little girl begged again. So mom finally told her well, if God gives you a cat from heaven, I'll let you keep it. You can guess the rest. She told the pastor. I watched my little girl go out in the yard, get on her hands and knees and ask God for a kitty cat. And really, pastor, you're not going to believe this, but I saw it with my own eyes. A kitten suddenly came flying out of the clear blue sky with its paws spread out and landed right in front of her.

Speaker 1:

Dwight Nelson ends his story with. I've always wondered if he told her what really happened. Every time I read that story I smile, you know, and I think God smiles too, and nobody could convince me that God does not have a sense of humor. I know he does. The story reminds me of Job, chapter 8 and verse 21, where it says he will fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy. I can just see that little girl laughing and shouting with joy as her cat fell from heaven. Can't you see her, with the kitten in her arms, running up to her mother saying look what God just gave me, and the mother, after witnessing what had just happened, realizing that, okay, we got a cat and looking up to heaven and going thanks a lot, god.

Speaker 1:

I recently heard a phrase that defines moments like that, when God just does something completely random in a way that absolutely blesses. I've heard it called a God kiss and a God kiss moment. This little girl definitely had one. But I also believe that for all of us there are times when God gives to us God kiss moments, those times when something completely unexpected and good is given or done for us and we go, wow, that's just awesome In and of itself. It may not be big enough to change anything drastic or huge in our lives, but it is a reminder of God's love for us and the fact that he's willing and wanting to do some of the little things.

Speaker 1:

So often we take our big concerns to God, the huge problems that we carry every day, and we fail to ask Him about some of the little or what some people would consider as insignificant things. And yet God cares about every aspect of our lives the huge, big problems that we face, but also the small, most intimate things that will encourage us, that will give us a smile or a laugh during our day. I believe God gets happy when he sees us happy. So today, my prayer for all of us is that we will experience a God kiss, a moment when God does something. That's not huge, but it's enough to make us smile, to help change our moods and to make our day even brighter and better. That's how much God cares about us. He cares about even the smallest details of our lives. I hope you have a great day, my friends, and that you experience a God kiss today. We'll talk again tomorrow. Thank you for listening today, and I invite you to join me Monday to Friday, right here on Starting Right, with Danny Mac.
