Starting Right

The Miracle You Don't See Coming Could Save Your Life

DannyMac

Today I share a true miracle story about a baby who survived sliding down a highway at 50 mph after his father accidentally drove away with him on the car roof. This incredible account of divine intervention reminds us that God still performs miracles today.

Speaker 1:

Good morning and welcome to Starting Right. I am Danny Mac and I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back and relax for the next five minutes as I help you start your day by starting right. One of the things that really thrills me is when I start to hear stories about how God does something miraculous for somebody. It gets me excited, it blesses me, it encourages me for somebody. It gets me excited, it blesses me, it encourages me, and so today I want to share a story like that with you, because I believe that you will be encouraged today. We do serve a God who still does miracles. This is a story about 27-year-old Michael Murray, who decided to take his two children to the medical center in Massachusetts where their mother was on duty as a surgical nurse. The family wanted to drop off some Mother's Day presents. It was a single rose and a gold necklace with the words Number One, mom, written on it. Having visited their mom, the father took his two children back to where the car had been parked. Marie gently set the infant seat and the three-month-old Matthew on the sunroof of the car and then he turned his attention to buckling in Matthew's two-year-old sister into her seat and, without thinking any further, murray slid into the driver's seat and drove off, forgetting that Matthew was still on the roof. Moving slowly from the dark garage and into the bright sunlight, murray drove through the busy streets towards Interstate 290. Despite heavy traffic, nobody honked their horns or waved a warning at him that anything was wrong. And, pulling onto the expressway that cuts through the city, he accelerated to 50 miles an hour and then he heard a scraping sound on the roof of his car as the tiny seat that Matthew was in began to slide, he said. I looked to where Matthew should have been in the car and then in the rear window mirror, and I saw him sliding down the highway in his infant seat. That's where he landed in the middle of the interstate, in the path of oncoming traffic. The car seat had flown off the roof and hit the road and was sliding down the highway almost as fast as the cars were coming towards it.

Speaker 1:

One of the drivers was a man by the name of James Boothby. He was following Murray's car when he saw the whole thing unfold. He saw young Matthew sail off the roof and hit the road. He described it this way. I saw something in the air. At first I thought someone had thrown garbage out their window he described it this way and it never tipped over, it just landed on the road and slid along a bit. I slammed on my brakes and turned my car in the lane so that no other cars could go by. I jumped from my car and I ran and found the uninjured baby in an undamaged car seat and scooped him up in my arms and took him back and gave him to his petrified father. This is a true story originally told by David Jeremiah. Petrified father. This is a true story originally told by David Jeremiah.

Speaker 1:

God intervened in something that could have been such a terrible tragedy. Psalm 77, verse 14, says you are the God who does miracles. You have shown people your power. Whenever we doubt that God is able to do something miraculous, we need to remember stories like this of Michael and his son Matthew, because there are times when we doubt God's ability to do a miracle. In our situation, we're facing something, we're filled with fear because of things that are happening around us and we do not believe that God is able to do a miracle, and the fear grows and grows and grows. But when we know that God is able and he is able and that he is a God of miracles, then we can hang on to His promises and His truth and we know that he will be with us and he can help us when we need it the most.

Speaker 1:

Now a couple of things that we need to remember about this miracle. First of all, the family had not been praying for a miracle. They hadn't spent time even seeking a miracle. In fact, they didn't even know that they needed one. Yet God still did the miracle to protect the life of young Matthew.

Speaker 1:

So many times in our lives we experience God's goodness and we don't even know that he's doing it. He protects us from something that could be disaster for us, but he works miracles in our lives all the time to keep us safe, to guide us, to show us his goodness in our lives. Matthew, chapter 6 and verse 8, says your father knows what you need before you even ask him Over. In Psalm 54 and verse 4, god will supply your every need according to His riches in glory. God is there to care for you and to look after you and to love you, and His power and grace is working in your lives. Do not doubt that God can do a miracle in your life, because he's doing them more often than you even know.

Speaker 1:

Believe today for the miracle you need in your life, whatever that is. Don't give up. Hang on, keep believing. Know that God is with you and he is a God of miracles. Have a great day, my friends. We will talk again tomorrow. We'll talk again tomorrow. Thank you for listening today and I invite you to join me Monday to Friday, right here on Starting Right with Danny Mac.
