Starting Right

Faith in the Storm

DannyMac

What happens when we choose to praise God in our darkest moments? Brandon Lake's chart-topping song "That's Who I Praise" provides a powerful answer that has resonated with listeners across North America for five consecutive weeks.
The heart of this anthem lies not in what we can get from God, but in who God fundamentally is—"the Lion of Judah," "the Lamb that was slain," "the only one who is worthy." Lake crafted these lyrics to redirect our attention from our needs and circumstances to the unchanging character of our Creator. When we truly understand who we're worshipping, our perspective on life's challenges dramatically shifts.
Whatever you're facing today—financial pressure, health concerns, relationship struggles—remember that God remains bigger than your problems. He has the answers, the power to transform, and the love to sustain you through it all. Listen to the full song through the link in our show notes, and let its message remind you of who truly deserves your praise.

Today, for Music Monday, we're going to take a look at a wonderful song from Brandon Lake. It's the song that's who I Praise. For the past five weeks it has been the number one song on Christian radio across North America. I love what the song says about our God and our relationship with Him. Here are just some of the lyrics. He is the God who has proven he can do impossible things. He is the Lion of Judah. He is the Lamb that was slain. He is the only one who is worthy. He is the Lion of Judah. He is the Lamb that was slain. He is the only one who is worthy. He is the risen Messiah, the Ancient of Days. That's who I praise. Then it also tells us that since he is who he says he is and he deserves our praise, then we can trust Him and His Word and not be shaken by what's happening to us or around us. Here are just a few more of the lyrics from the song, and these lyrics describe how some of our Bible heroes lived lives of victory and power and strength, no matter what they were facing. Brandon sings this through the waves One day I'll see that promised land, no longer slaves. Though the fear is talking, it can't take out my faith. I'm going to praise. I'm going to praise.

In an interview, brendan was asked about the process of writing this song, and here was his answer. I hope this song shines the light on who God was, is and will forever be. This song is an anthem that takes the focus off of what we need from God and puts it more precisely on praising God for who he is. One of the examples he gave in his song was having faith, like Paul, being able to sing like Silas, as they were in prison. Let's take a look at that story found in Acts, chapter 16. It says that around midnight, paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening and instead of complaining and begging God to set them free, they were worshiping and praising God. It's the same mindset that David had in Psalm 34, verse 1. I will praise the Lord at all times. I will continually speak his praises Over. In Psalm 42, verse 11, he said With that attitude that Paul and Silas had. We come now to verse 26 back in Acts, chapter 16, where, after they were singing and praying hymns to God, it says Suddenly there was a massive earthquake and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open and the chains were off of every prisoner. The jailer woke up to see the prison doors wide open.

Speaker 1:

We need to have the same faith and mindset as these Bible heroes. The circumstances to them did not destroy their faith. They realized without a shadow of a doubt that their God was bigger than their problems and their circumstances and they were never going to let go of God because they knew that God would never let go of them. This song is that wonderful and powerful reminder to keep praising God and hanging on to Him, no matter what we are facing in our lives. And the very real truth is that my wife and I have faced some of these challenges ourselves over the last. While Dealing with the stroke and not being able to work, we have had to choose to reject fear and worry and instead decide purposely to trust God, to have faith in Him, to believe in Him. God is still God. He is still with us. He is still there. We are always going to hold on to Him and never let go of Him. He is our savior, our king. He has all the answers that we need and we can always, always trust him, and I encourage all of you to have that same mindset. No matter what you're facing, no matter what struggles you're going through, you will hang on tight, because he is the only one who has answers. He's the only one who can turn things around. He's the only one who can lift you up out of that situation and make it completely different. He is God, and God loves you and wants to help you. So trust him. Never let go of him.
