Starting Right

The Heartbeat of God's Family Business

DannyMac Season 1 Episode 1270

What if we viewed the church as the most powerful organization on earth? Today's episode challenges us to look beyond stained glass and steeples to see God's true masterpiece — not a building, but a living community of believers united across the globe.
What makes the church truly extraordinary isn't just its global reach, but the genuine spirit of care among its members and the unparalleled "benefits package" that earthly enterprises simply cannot match. This fresh perspective invites us to reconsider our level of involvement in our local churches, recognizing that each of us has something valuable to contribute to this world-changing work.
Thank God for your church today, and consider how you might become more engaged in what is truly the most significant enterprise in human history. Join me every weekday morning for more five-minute inspirations to start your day right!

Speaker 1:

Good morning and welcome to Starting Right with Danny Mac. I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great five-minute start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back, relax and let me help you start your day right. We all know that God created many amazing things. We look around, we see the universe and the stars, and the beauty of nature and all of the glory of God all around us. We can see that, we know that, but sometimes we forget about one of the really important and also very beautiful creations that God made, and that was the creation of the church. We may not think of the church in the same way as we do nature and all of those other things, but the church is a beautiful creation of God. He put it together and when we talk about the church, we're not talking about a building. The Bible never, ever, refers to a building as the church. It always refers to people, the people who follow Christ. In fact, the church is so important to Christ. The book of Revelation tells us that Jesus is coming back for his bride, which is the church. It's a beautiful thing. In Ephesians, chapter 3, verses 20 and 21, it says Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations, forever and ever. Amen. There is power in the church, and it is through the universality of the church around the world that God shares his message of love and grace and forgiveness, and millions of people are coming to know him. We are brothers and sisters together in Christ because of what Christ has done, not because of the building that we attend, but because we are a part of his universal family. There's a story by Jeffrey Cotter that came out a few years back that talks about the church in a rather unique way. I want to share it with you this morning.

Speaker 1:

A pastor and a businessman both boarded a plane on their way to Colorado. Both men were traveling on business. The pastor dressed very casually, in jeans and a jacket, the businessman in a very expensive business suit, carrying a copy of the Wall Street Journal under his arm. As soon as they sat down, the businessman turned to the pastor and began the conversation by saying I'm in the figure salon business. We can change a woman's self-concept by changing her body. It's a very profound and powerful thing. The pastor looked at him and said how long have you been doing this? The man said well, I just graduated from the University of Michigan School of Business Administration. They've given me so much responsibility already and I feel very honored. In fact, I hope to eventually manage the western part of the operation. So you're a national organizer? The pastor asked oh yes, we are the fastest growing company of our kind in the nation. It's really good to be a part of an organization like that.

Speaker 1:

The man then asked and what do you do? Well, the pastor said it's interesting that we have similar business interests. You're in the body changing business. I'm in the personality changing business. We apply basic theocratic principles to accomplish indigenous personality modification. The man looked at him questioningly. You know, I've heard about that. He replied hesitantly. But do you have an office here in the city? The pastor said oh, we have many offices. We have offices up and down the state. In fact, we're national. We have at least one office in every state of the union, including Alaska and Hawaii. As a matter of fact, management has a plan to put at least one office in every country of the world by the end of the business era.

Speaker 1:

The pastor paused for a moment and then asked do you have that in your business?

Speaker 1:

Well, no, not yet. The businessman said. But you mentioned management. How do they make it work? Oh, the pastor said it's a family concern. There's a father and son. They run Must take a lot of capital. The businessman said oh, you mean money? Yeah, I suppose so. No one knows just how much it takes, but we never worry because there's never a shortage. The boss always seems to have enough. He's a very creative guy and money is well, just there. In fact, those of us in the organization have been saying about our boss that he owns the cattle on a thousand hills. Oh, the businessman said you've diversified into ranching as well. Oh, no, no, no, it's just a saying that we use to indicate how wealthy he is.

Speaker 1:

The businessman thought for a moment and said what about you and the other employees? How does that all work for you guys? There's something else, the pastor said All the employees have a spirit that pervades the organization. I know it sounds old-fashioned in a world like ours, but there's this really true, deep sense of caring that we all have for one another. Do you have that in your business? He asked the businessman. Well, not yet, said the man. But do you have good benefits? The pastor laughed. Oh yeah, they're substantial. I have complete life insurance, fire insurance, all the basics. You might not believe this, but it's true. I have holdings in a mansion that's being built for me right now for my retirement. Do you have anything like that in your business? Not yet, said the man wistfully.

Speaker 1:

You know, one thing bothers me about what you're saying, said the businessman. I've read the journals and if your business is what you say it is, why haven't I heard about it before? You're right. The pastor said. I'm talking about the church. How would you like to join us? It has the firmest foundation, the best backing of any business that you will ever see, and the future benefits Unbelievable.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's the church. We may see it in different terms. Where we are, we may not have experienced everything that God has for us yet, but the church is an incredible organization of God's power and love that he uses to spread His Word around the world, and doing what you do for Him has the greatest benefits of anywhere in the world at any time. Thank God for your church and why not consider becoming more involved in it. I'm sure there's some place there that you could be involved and you could make a difference in somebody else's life. I hope you have a wonderful day, my friends. Take care and we will talk again tomorrow. Thank you for listening today and I invite you to join me Monday to Friday, right here on Starting Right with Danny Mac.
