Prayer Changes Everything

DannyMac Season 1 Episode 1261

Prayer transforms lives, but not always on our timeline. This episode dives deep into the tension between our expectations and God's perfect timing when we pray.
Faith, as Hebrews reminds us, is "the essence of things hoped for and not yet seen." The waiting period between our prayers and God's answers isn't empty space – it's where faith grows strongest. When we align our requests with God's will as revealed in Scripture (1 John 5:14-15), we can "wait in expectation" (Psalm 5:3) rather than frustration.
Tauren Wells captures this powerful truth in his song "When We Pray," declaring that "all the world starts changing when the church starts praying." The lyrics acknowledge human suffering while affirming that "strongholds start to break" and "prison walls start shaking" through prayer. This isn't wishful thinking but reflects the biblical reality that prayer connects us to God's unlimited power.

Speaker 1:

Good morning and welcome to Starting Right with Danny Mac. I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great five-minute start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back, relax and let me help you start your day right. Good morning, everybody, and welcome to another week. You all know that Mondays are our music days.

Speaker 1:

We talk about Christian music, and today we're going to look at a song called when we Pray by Torin Wells. But let's talk about prayer just for a moment. Before we look at the song, let me give you this scripture that is very important to us in our understanding of prayer Philippians, chapter 4, verses 6 and 7. It says Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. There are some times when we can find ourselves getting very uptight when we pray because we're not seeing the answers we're asking for. They're not coming fast enough or in the way that we want. So we can either condemn ourselves for not being good enough for God to answer our prayers or we blame God for not caring and not wanting to do what we believe is so necessary. But the scripture tells us to have a different attitude about it. It says that we are not to be anxious or worry or get uptight or stress out over anything, but in everything, by prayer and bringing those requests to God along with thankfulness and praise to Him, we make our requests known. It says. At that time, god's peace will overcome us and it will be so strong that it won't make any kind of sense.

Speaker 1:

Remember that in Hebrews we're told that faith is the essence of things hoped for and not yet seen. Faith doesn't mean you believe because of what you've seen. Faith is believing in what God's promises are and our decision to stand on and hold on to those promises so that when we pray, even though we've not seen the answers or the changes yet, we can believe that he is going to do what he has promised he is going to do Over in 1 John 5, verses 14 and 15, and this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that is Christ that if we ask anything according to His will, well, how do you know God's will? What does the Bible say is the will of God? If you pray according to what the Bible tells us is God's will, and there's many places that he does tell us that and I don't have time to get into all of them this morning. But if you take a look, you will find what God's will. And there's many places that he does tell us that and I don't have time to get into all of them this morning. But if you take a look, you will find what God's will is, and if you pray in accordance to that will, god will hear our prayers and he will answer them. We can get excited about what God is going to do based upon what he has already promised. We know that our God is trustworthy, we know that his word is true, and so we can put our faith in Him and believe that he will do what he has said.

Speaker 1:

Torrensong acknowledges that there are many people who are hurting, who are broken, that are feeling beaten down and hopeless, but it doesn't have to stay that way, he says. We believe all the world starts changing when the church starts praying. Strongholds start to break when we pray, prison walls start shaking. At the sound of praising, nothing stays the same. Let your kingdom come, lord. Let your will be done. All the world starts changing when the church starts praying. When we pray, things happen. We can trust Him. Even though the time frame is not ours, it is always his. We can still trust him to do his work and his way.

Speaker 1:

Psalm, chapter 5 and verse 3 says In the morning, o Lord, you hear my voice. In the morning, I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. I love that verse because it reminds us that when we pray, we can wait in eager anticipation for God to work on our behalf, which is exactly what Torrens sings about in this song. All the world starts changing when the church starts to pray. I'm going to leave you with just a short clip of Torren Wells and when we pray, and in your show notes today, there will be the YouTube link that you can click on and go and watch the entire video. I encourage you to do that and I pray that God will give you strength and wisdom this week and bless you, and that you will spend time seeking God's face and praying. Don't give up, don't let go, always hang on to the truth and be filled with faith. Have a great day, my friends. We will talk again tomorrow. And here's Torn Wells with when we pray.
